Success is at the Tip of your Tongue
On the road to success, many choose to chase what's popular and lucrative, regardless of their interest or how it makes them feel. Well, I’m here to tell you, chasing success that way is played out like a DVD….and those who are still riding that wave are arriving to their destination feeling stressed, unfulfilled, and potentially struggling with anxious, depressive and/or suicidal thoughts.
This article will share the disconnect that many experience on their journey to career success. You will learn key language to help guide, direct, and inspire you to identify and reach towards your true innate desires with faith, courage, and wisdom.
Main Takeaways:
There’s no amount of money that can fulfill your deep, genuine, and true desires.
You must make many challenging choices that have the potential to impact the course of your life.
The journey to your goal matters more than the attainment. Stay positive and learn what you need to grow. It all serves a purpose
Setting God as a priority in your life will help you develop all the skills and tools you need to live a successful life
Success. We all want it. We all hope to experience it. We all are deserving of it. However, what if I told you, the main factor limiting many from experiencing success, is how we think about it. To some, success is money driven. To others, success is fame driven. To those, who usually acquire and thrive in it, success is lived from an authentic space. In order to actualize the greatest and highest version of yourself, which helps you become successful, you must identify and connect to hobbies, skills, habits, and behaviors that align with who you truly are.
There’s no amount of money that can fulfill your deep, genuine, and true desires.
There’s no amount of money that can take away life’s challenges or growing pains.
Now, don’t get me wrong; money does help and money is an important tool that can improve your life…but it was never created to fulfill your life.
Authenticity and connecting to things that represent who you truly are,
is the most fulfilling thing you can do.
Research shows that career success must be equally tied to financial stability, in a purpose driven career, that supports inner peace and joy. When this balance is not developed and nurtured in your life, it can truly impact the way you see yourself and value your life. This is no way to live.
Having financial stability without inner peace and joy may cause you to suffer mental battles of resentment and discontentment. Having inner peace and joy without financial stability may lead you to feel discouraged and ineffective in your authentic pursuits.
To thrive in adulthood, you must make many challenging choices that have the potential to impact the trajectory and course of your life. Take it from someone who's been in your shoes; creating and living a balanced life requires you to develop a perspective and inner dialogue that supports your quest to understand your true innate desires and equips you with the tools to live a life of stability; financially, mentally, and emotionally. This vital piece to your success can only be found, nurtured, and developed by the word of God.
“God has transmitted his very substance into every Scripture, for it is God-breathed. It will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness. Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.”
-2 Timothy 3:16 TPT
Here are 10 Biblical Verses to guide, direct, and inspire you to identify your true innate desires with faith, courage, and wisdom:
No. 1: Get to Know the Master: Proverbs 13:23, in the Passion Translation, teaches us the importance of living life with Godly wisdom. The only way to develop and exercise good judgment in our lives is to get to know the Master. “The lovers of God will live a long life and get to enjoy their wealth, but the ungodly will certainly perish.” Perish doesn’t always mean the end of life - in the context of success - it means to spoil or deteriorate what you worked to achieve. If you want to be successful in all you do. If you want to live a life of wealth and joy, get close to the Master. Learn His ways; understand His methods and you will live a long life and enjoy your wealth.
No. 2: Make Your Relationship with God Priority: Thriving as an adult is a balancing act. We all have to learn how to manage many essential experiences that unfold over the course of our lives; some good and others…not so much. This can lead one to worry and feel challenged to manage it all. When you make your relationship with God a priority, He will help you manage your life experiences, while providing you with all you need to thrive. Matthew 6:30-33 TPT reminds us, “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”
No. 3: Decide What You Want & Believe: Many times, what leads us to feel stressed and unfulfilled in life, is our inability to intentionally determine what we truly desire to achieve. Before you were born, God created a plan for your life that, deep inside, you are aware of. Take some time to deeply reflect and explore yourself to truly determine what you want. It may take exploring different options and career fields but if you allow yourself the space to discover what you want, you will find it. When you do; write it down and believe, no matter how crazy or out of this world it may seem; no matter how long it may take (tarries); believe - God is able to do impossible things. “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” -Habakkuk 2:2-3 KJV
No. 4: Get Ready to Learn & Trust: Life is a constant learning course and unfortunately, it doesn’t end when you graduate from High School. You will always be learning. You will always be placed in situations to help you grow and develop. God designed life to be this way; not to constantly challenge you…but to ensure that you are always prepared and ready for all the amazing things He has in store for you. Success takes time. Success takes developing strength and skill in areas you may be weak. To learn and develop all the tools you need to effectively carry out your life’s vision, you must live as we’re reminded of in Proverbs 3:1-6 TPT, “My child, if you truly want a long and satisfying life, never forget the things that I’ve taught you. Follow closely every truth that I’ve given you. Then you will have a full, rewarding life. Hold on to loyal love and don’t let go, and be faithful to all that you’ve been taught. Let your life be shaped by integrity, with truth written upon your heart. That’s how you will find favor with God and Men - you will gain the reputation of living life well. Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart, rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go.”
No. 5: Fearlessly Live as Yourself: Inner peace and joy can only come from living life as your true and authentic self. One seldomly arrives at this state of being, without tapping into and living unapologetically as themselves. God created us all to be unique. God created us all to be unlike any other person created. Don’t follow the crowd. Don’t do what’s popular. Engage in living a life that reflects who you truly are and what you truly love. When you do, not only will you shine and make your Heavenly Father proud but you will inspire others to do the same. “Your lives light up the world. For how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop? And who would light a lamp and then hide it in an obscure place? Instead, it’s placed where everyone in the house can benefit from its light. So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that your commendable works will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in Heaven.” - Matthew 5:14-16 TPT
No. 6: Use Your Words to Your Advantage: Every word that you speak about your future should be positive, hope filled, and encouraging. I know life may not always reflect what you desire, but never allow your words to place outcomes in the atmosphere that you don’t want to experience. “Your words are powerful that they will kill or give life, and the talkative person will reap consequences.” -Proverbs 18:21 TPT. If you want to attain success, speak like you already have it. If you want to live a fulfilled life, speak as if you have one. No matter what your reality may show; your future is listening and shaping every experience to adjust to the words you speak.
No. 7: Mind Your Business: Oftentimes what may challenge your path to success is wanting to be in the know of what’s going on in the world. As social media becomes a place that garners much of our attention, it’s easy to become distracted and lose focus on what you should be tending to; your goals, your growth, your development…your success. This is SOul important along your adulting journey because failure to tend to your own garden and align with your tasks can truly impact the course of your life; leading to stress, anxious feelings, and depressive moods. As Paul reminds us in first Thessalonians 4:11-12 TPT, you must “aspire to lead a calm and peaceful life as you mind your own business and earn your living, just as we’ve taught you. By doing this you will live an honorable life, influencing others and commanding respect of even the unbelievers. Then you’ll be in need of nothing and not dependent on others.”
No. 8: Follow The Master's Plan: God knows you and everything you truly desire. When you try to do life without God’s help, it can truly feel like a Cold world, no snuggie (sidenote: What up, Cole!). It becomes easy to misstep, make errors, experience pain and struggles that God never intended you to go through to grow. Success requires that you follow God’s plan and when you do so, not only will you receive the desires of your heart, but more than that! “Go ahead and make all the plans you want, but it’s the Lord who will ultimately direct your steps. We are all in love with our own opinions, convinced they’re correct. But the Lord is in the midst of us, testing and probing our every motive. Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself. Then every plan you make will succeed.” - Proverbs 16:1-3 TPT
No. 9: Have Faith! It Will Happen: As you chase your goals, you may feel discouraged, wondering if it’ll ever happen. Living life as your true authentic self, and choosing to chase your purpose, has its challenges. You will be tempted to choose easier routes. Life will test you to identify if you truly care for and desire your hopes and dreams. You may lose friends, make many sacrifices, and may even be laughed at. Remember, if you are courageous enough to fearlessly live as yourself, chances are, you are doing something this world has yet to see. Do it anyway. Trust and know that in time, you will win. You will be victorious. You will succeed! “And don’t allow yourselves to be weary in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!” -Galatians 6:9 TPT
No. 10: It All Serves a Purpose: Along the journey to success, have faith! Live as though, every word that God has spoken over your life, will come to pass….because it will. In the history of all creation, one thing you can depend on is God and His word. He has and never will lie. Every promise God makes will come true. So, when you experience failure, learn the lesson. When you go through challenges, find the resolve to push through. When you encounter setbacks, sit back and reflect on how you may overcome them. Any and everything you experience along your way, is building, helping, and developing you to maintain the success you receive. Learn to praise God in the good and the bad; the happy and the sad. “So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together for good, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.” -Romans 8:28 TPT
Success is your birthright. You were created and born to live a successful and fulfilling life, but you must shift your perspective on: what success looks like, what success feels like, and how to achieve it. Your career success, that you so deeply desire, will never be found in what's popular and lucrative; it will always be found in your ability to connect with God, love yourself, and be who you truly are. This will not only guarantee the financial stability you need to live in this world but it will secure the inner joy and peace you deserve to experience in this world.
