I just watched a very incredible film. Released in 2023. Hesitant to watch because, “it might make me mad.”

Well, it didn’t disappoint there!….but the way this expression was felt, wasn’t unsettling as it tends to be. It was more so….relief. Gratitude. A call to reflect and ask myself the same question I pose to you.

Have you discovered your discontent?

When you have a chance, do yourself a favor and watch, Origin (currently streaming on Hulu). It’s an incredible film about the life of an incredible Journalist, Isabel WIlkerson, that showcases beautifully where so much discontent begins. It is based on her New York Times Best Seller, Caste: The Origins of our Discontents.

To say the least, I cried for so many reasons, but most of all, was this realization that we’re all walking around with some level of discontent that originates from something created for us. We’re all living in deep traumas, that we don’t always know how to express or articulate because…..we’ve been living in it for so long.

Instead of holding the emotion and possibly building more discontent, I decided to write.

✨It’s Time We Live Without It✨

“You don’t escape trauma by ignoring it.

You escape trauma by confronting it.”

-Isabel Wilkerson, Origin (film)

Yet,

many of us are afraid because

we don’t know how to live without it.

We don’t know how to exist healed.

We tend to be afraid of

what life looks like, and who we become,

on the other side of

the confrontation we need the most.

Ignoring it—

keeps us small.

Bound.

Regulated.

Confused.

In deep sorrow

and rooted in pain.

I know you want to break free.

I know there’s something on the inside of you

that desires to experience life unhinged.

I know you’re tired of

wearing all that weight

and finding ways to call it:

joy, peace, or freedom.

But—

it’s just color, subservient to

cultural norms that were

never designed for you to

know what those attributes truly feel like.

The only way out

is through

confrontation.

Not the kind that harms.

The kind that heals

The future.

Your now.

Every moment

it robbed you of.

Born in shackles.

Integrated in pain.

Systematically trained.

But—

you don’t have to stay there.

You can break free and

You will….

When we finally tire

of our own discontents.
