When Life Sits You Down: A Lesson on Stillness and Surrender

It has been eleven days since I fell.
Not just a minor stumble, but a fall that forced me to stop. My knee swelled. My body ached. The pain told me to sit down. The message ran deeper than the injury. This wasn’t just physical—it was spiritual.

I had been moving fast, trying to hold everything together with grace but that illusion of balance was really “control in disguise.” Even after the fall, I tried to keep up. I tried to be “normal.” I didn’t want to slow down. I wanted to ride my bike, go to the gym, show up for my goals, and move freely. Not because I needed the movement but because stillness felt too vulnerable.
That discomfort brought me back to a season I thought I had graduated from. A time when God invited me into solitude—not to isolate, but to transform. That was when I started the inner work, the kind that doesn’t happen on the go. The kind that reveals truth, breaks patterns, and prepares you for the life you’re praying for.
The truth is, stillness is rarely convenient. Facing yourself is never easy. It is far simpler to stay distracted than to stay present. Yet distraction doesn’t heal you. Presence does.
Stillness as a Sacred Teacher
My recent fall reminded me that healing isn’t just physical. It’s mental. It’s spiritual. Stillness has a way of showing you what motion often keeps hidden.
It will reveal your restlessness. Your resistance. Your dependence on being busy to feel valuable.
The pause isn’t empty. It is full of wisdom. When the noise clears, your soul can finally speak — relaying messages that help you fine tune the understanding of yourself. In stillness, you see the patterns you’ve outgrown and the pace that was never sustainable. You reconnect with the part of you that doesn’t need to hustle to be worthy.
What I’m Learning in This Moment
In this moment of stillness, I’m learning that this moment is not the end. It is a reset. A realignment. A sacred moment to bring forth more authentic expression of the woman I have become.
Nothing is being taken from me. Something is being offered to me. Space. Insight. Presence. Peace.
If you are in a similar place—slowed down by life, grief, burnout, or uncertainty—know that this is not failure. This is formation.
You are not behind. You are being led inward.
Let this moment show you who you really are, not just what you can produce. Let it remind you that God doesn’t need your performance. He wants your presence.
